New Volkswagen Polo GTI: Pocket Rocket with 180HP 1.4-liter TSI

[Updated] The Polo we've all been waiting for ever since Volkswagen lifted the veils off the latest generation model is a reality as the German firm has published the first official photos of the Golf GTI's smaller brother prior to its world premiere at the Geneva auto gathering next month.

The new 2010 Polo GTI packs the same 1.4-liter TSI gasoline engine with turbo- and supercharging as the Seat Ibiza Cupra with an estimated output of 180 horsepower and a hefty 250Nm or 184 lb-ft of torque, available from 2,000 to 4,500 rpm.

The hot Polo's TSI gasoline engine is linked to a compact seven-speed, twin-clutch DSG gearbox that channels drive through the front axle.

Aligned with a 1,184kg or 2,610 lbs kerbweight, the 1.4 TSI allows the Polo GTI to accelerate from rest to 100km/h or 62 mph in 6.9 seconds before reaching a top speed of 228 km/h or 142 mph.

New VW Golf "R" 270HP Receives a 310-362HP Power Boost from B&B

German tuning specialist, B&B, is turning the up wick on the most potent series-production Golf ever made, the new 270HP all-wheel drive Golf R, with the launch of a performance package that includes powertain and chassis upgrades.

The engine mods come in three different stages, with the first bumping output from 270 horsepower to 310HP, the second to 324HP and the third to a hefty 362HP.

The most powerful kit features a larger turbocharger, a sports exhaust system with a different downpipe and a racing catalyst, reprogrammed ECU, a revised air intake system and a new intercooler.

B&B claims that the 362HP Golf R sprints from standstill to 100km/h (62mph) in just 4.8 seconds and maxes out at 280km/h or 174 mph.

The tuning firm also offers a special 8-caliper high-performance braking system, an adjustable coilover suspension with new springs that lower the vehicle's ride height and a set of black-colored alloy wheels in sizes 19'' and 20''.

VW Golf R with 270HP and AWD: New Photo Gallery from International Driving Presentation

Unveiled to the public for the first time at last year's Frankfurt motor show, the Golf R comes with a 270HP 2.0-liter turbo engine and all-wheel drive and is the most powerful and fastest series production Golf ever made. We've already shared with you all the basic details on the new 'R', but today, VW released some new photos of the car shot during the international driving presentation in Ellmau, Austria.

The hottest Golf leaves the 100km/h (62mph) mark behind it in 5.7 seconds when equipped with a manual gearbox, and 5.5 seconds when shifted with VW's optional DSG dual clutch transmission. In both cases top speed is limited to 250km/h or 155 mph. Photo gallery after the break.
